Problem Statement & Goal
The problem is that the Agency lacks a centralized communication platform that is easy to use and helps field agents collaborate effectively. The current system consists of multiple communication channels such as email, phone, and in-person meetings, which can be inefficient and disjointed.
The goal is to create an mobile chat application that can streamline communication and improve collaboration between field agents and analysts.
Scenarios
We started the project by creating detailed scenarios to better understand the needs and wants of our target audience. We wanted to ensure that the mobile chat application we were designing would meet the specific needs of field agents and analysts.
Through research and analysis, we identified key user groups and created scenarios that captured the specific challenges and difficulties they face on a daily basis. By doing this, we were able to gain valuable insights into the unique requirements of each group, which helped us design a more effective and user-friendly application.
Competitor Analysis
What We Learned
We conducted an analysis of the key competitors in the market to identify potential opportunities and threats. We identified key features and functionalities that were missing from the existing applications and developed strategies to differentiate ourselves from the competition.
Key Findings
- We discovered that the majority of the existing applications lacked features to facilitate secure communication.
- UI and UX were not user-friendly and often led to confusion.
- Security features are not available.
Design Solution
We began by developing rough sketches to explore different design possibilities. This allowed us to visualize key features and workflows of the application before refining them further.
Next, we created detailed wireframes to map out the user interface and define the user flow. This helped us identify any design pitfalls and improve the user experience.
Our Approach
We created a minimalist and functional design using light colors and gradients to ensure that the interface was easy to navigate and not overwhelming. We also used simple iconography to ensure that visuals were not distracting and remained functional.
Key Features
- We added a user authorization process to ensure only authorized personnel could access the app.
- The design allowed for seamless communication through text, voice, and video.
- We added a file-sharing feature with secure transfer methods.
- SOS feature is added for field agents safety.

Usability Testing
During this process, We were able to bring all of our research, ideas, and designs together into a working model. This prototype allowed us to test the functionality, usability, and effectiveness of the design, and to make any necessary adjustments based on user feedback.
We conducted extensive user testing during this phase, using a combination of in-person and remote testing methods. We tracked user behavior and collected feedback on various aspects of the application, including the user interface, navigation, features, and overall experience. This feedback was then used to improve the design and to ensure that it met the needs and expectations of our target audience.
Once we were satisfied with the prototype, we moved on to the implementation phase, where we worked closely with the development team to bring the design to life. We provided detailed specifications and guidance on how the application should look and function, and we continued to test and refine the design throughout the development process.
Implementation
We used an iterative development process using Agile methodology to ensure continuous feedback from users and development that would meet the requirements of National Intelligence Agency personnel.
We conducted a comprehensive test to assess the application's design and functionality. The results showed that the design was user-friendly, and the functionality was seamless, allowing the user to focus on their tasks effortlessly.
Conclusion
Through research, user testing, and iterative design, we developed a mobile chat application for National Intelligence Agency that meets the rigorous security, functionality, and usability requirements of the intended user base.
The application is intuitive, user-friendly, and tailored to the specific needs and requirements of personnel. Its functional features and minimalistic design make it an indispensable tool for modern intelligence operations.
Throughout the design process, we worked closely with stakeholders to ensure that the application met their needs and expectations. We conducted extensive research to understand the unique requirements and challenges of intelligence personnel, and we used this information to inform our design decisions.
We also conducted multiple rounds of user testing to ensure that the application was easy to use and effective in real-world scenarios. This feedback was used to refine and improve the design, resulting in a final product that met the exacting standards of National Intelligence Agency.
We are proud to have worked on this project and to have created a tool that will help intelligence personnel do their jobs more effectively and efficiently.
